On this auspicious occasion, let us recall Queen Kuntī’s prayer to Lord Ṡrī-Kṛṣṇa. The following words were spoken after Prince Yudhiṣṭhira was crowned as king of Khāṇḍavaprastha (Indraprastha), just before Lord Ṡrī-Kṛṣṇa wanted to go back to Dvārāvatī (Dwaraka). It occurs in Ādi-parva, Chapter 206 of Gita Press edition of Mahabharata. These are found only in the southern recension (incl. Malayalam mss.), BORI critical edition starred passage 110 Ādi-parva Appendix–1:
kuntī:—
jātuṣaṃ gṛham āsādya mayā prāptaṃ ca kēṡava
āryēṇāpi tava jn̄ātaṃ kuntibhōjēna cānagha
tvayā nāthēna gōvinda duḥkhaṃ prāptaṃ mahattaram
kiṃ punas tvam anāthānāṃ daridrāṇāṃ viṡēṣataḥ
sarvaduḥkhāni ṡāmyanti tava saṃdarṡanān mama
smarasvaitān mahāprājn̄a tēna jīvanti pāṇḍavāḥ
O Kēṡava! Whatever (hardship) I obtained in the house of lac, you learnt it from my noble father King Kuntibhōja, O sinless one! O Govinda, when a very great calamity has been obtained even by your protection, what to speak again of orphans and the poor? All my sorrows are pacified by beholding your vision. O very wise one! Please remember by whom these Pāṇḍavas are alive.
